What this tool calculates
This GST calculator separates a tax-inclusive total into taxable value and GST, or adds GST to a tax-exclusive amount. You supply the rate. The same-state option splits the computed tax into CGST and SGST; the different-state option displays IGST. Selecting an option here does not determine the legal place of supply.
How to use gst amount calculator
- Check whether the amount already includes GST. Use the same currency and basis throughout.
- Enter the applicable rate from your records or the official GST source, then select the supply-location treatment.
- Calculate and review taxable value, total tax and final amount. Tax components are rounded to paise and their sum matches total GST.
How the calculation works
Exclusive: GST = amount × rate ÷ 100. Inclusive: taxable value = gross ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100), and GST = gross − taxable value.
Worked example
₹1,000 before GST at an entered 5% rate gives ₹50 GST and ₹1,050 total.
Understanding the result
Adding 5% to a tax-exclusive price differs from extracting 5% from a tax-inclusive price. Do not subtract 5% of the gross total to remove 5% GST. The tool does not classify supplies, determine registration requirements, calculate input tax credit or select an applicable rate.
