What this tool calculates
A target food-cost percentage expresses serving ingredient cost as a share of selling price. This calculator rearranges that relationship to find the price implied by your entered serving cost and target. It also compares an optional current price with the calculated price.
How to use menu price from food cost
- Calculate the ingredient cost of one serving using your current recipe quantities and purchase prices.
- Enter your own target percentage above zero and up to 100.
- Calculate the implied price. If you entered a current menu price, review its food-cost percentage and the difference between prices.
How the calculation works
Calculated price = recipe serving cost ÷ (target percentage ÷ 100). This is arithmetic, not a pricing recommendation.
Worked example
A ₹60 serving cost at an entered 30% target gives a calculated price of ₹200 before any separately modelled taxes.
Understanding the result
The result is a mathematical price under your target, not a recommended menu price. Labour, overheads, taxes, delivery commission and demand are not part of this formula. A small target percentage produces a large implied price because the serving cost represents a smaller share of price.
