What this tool calculates
Food-waste cost assigns a purchase cost to discarded ingredients. This tool supports up to three waste lines. Multiply each discarded quantity by its purchase cost per matching unit, then add the line costs for one reporting period. Different ingredients can use different units when the quantity and unit cost within each line match.
How to use food waste cost calculator
- Choose one reporting period for your waste log.
- Enter discarded quantity and purchase cost per matching unit for at least one line. For 2 kg at ₹180/kg, enter 2 and 180.
- Add optional second and third lines, then calculate their total. Leave both fields blank for any unused optional line.
How the calculation works
Line waste cost = discarded quantity × purchase cost per matching unit. Total = sum of line costs.
Worked example
2 kg discarded at an entered ₹180/kg is ₹360 recorded waste cost.
Understanding the result
Keep each quantity and its purchase cost in matching units. If quantity is grams and cost is per kilogram, convert one before entering it. Do not enter monthly waste on one line and daily waste on another unless that is intentionally the reporting scope. The result covers purchase costs entered here, not labour, disposal charges or lost sales.
