What this tool calculates
Labour-cost percentage compares labour spending with revenue for one reporting period. The result depends on what you include in labour: wages alone give a different measure from wages plus employer contributions, benefits and other payroll costs.
How to use restaurant labour cost percentage
- Choose a reporting period and gather labour cost and revenue for that period.
- Enter all labour components included in your definition without duplicating them in another cost measure.
- Calculate the percentage and record the cost definition alongside the result for later comparisons.
How the calculation works
Labour-cost percentage = labour costs for a period ÷ revenue for the same period × 100.
Worked example
₹1,20,000 labour cost on ₹6,00,000 revenue for the same period is 20%.
Understanding the result
The calculator does not determine a suitable staffing budget or industry target. Revenue of zero leaves the percentage undefined. Comparing periods with different labour components or different revenue bases can be misleading even when both calculations are arithmetically correct.
